October 31, 2019: College Park Metro Station Pedestrian and Shuttle-UM Changes
We are sharing this important update to help our community members adjust how they travel to our campus, where safety is the top priority.
Beginning on or about November 3, Purple Line construction will prompt two major closures along Campus Drive, at the WMATA Metro and CSX track underpass:
  • The bus stop on Campus Drive at 50th Avenue (for the 104 College Park Metro Shuttle-UM route).
  • The Campus Drive sidewalk under the railroad tracks (between the Paint Branch Trail and River Road).
Details and a map are provided below.
Shuttle-UM Riders
  • While the 104 College Park Metro Shuttle-UM bus stop (#30528) on Campus Drive at 50th Avenue is closed, passengers should instead use stop #36469 on River Road.
Pedestrians/Cyclists
  • Pedestrians and cyclists detour through the Old Town neighborhood to and from the College Park-UMD Metro Station. This detour requires the use of stairs, escalator or elevator.
  • When the Metro station is closed, the elevator is not operational, so a continuous paratransit shuttle for pedestrians who need an accessible route will be provided by the Purple Line. Information on the paratransit shuttle can be found here.

This will be an active construction zone. Pedestrians, cyclists, scooterists and drivers should all take extra care when traveling through these areas. Please be patient and always follow signs and flaggers.
We are committed to keeping our community updated on the Purple Line work on and around our campus. Visit purplelinemd.com for more information. You may sign up for text and email updates from the Purple Line here.
